The Max 232 is for the UART communication it connects
(or) interfaces in between the AMR and Meter.
The microcontroller checks the servers date and time, so
that it can able to send the data for once in a day. The
microcontroller verifies the GSM/GPRS modem if any
message was received from the master number, in order
to respond if any message was received from the master
number, it will executes the commands as per the request
sent by the master. Else it reads the stored data from flash
memory. The microcontroller collects the stored data
from flash memory and communicates with GSM/GPRS
modem and sends alerts to the preferred members.
V. WORKING PROCESS OF AMR
The AMR will be installed in remote locations near
HT, LT consumers, DTRS and FEDERS. The AMR will
be installed to the 3-phase 4-wire meter, the
communication from modem to meter will be using RS-
232 and from modem to server the communication is
done using GPRS. It is mainly used to collect the
complete data from the meter once in a day at a specified
interval or the data can be accessed using ONDEMAND.
By using POTA (program over air) feature modem can
directly connect to server and download the new firmware
and update it. If we want data again simply send
ONDEMAND to meter.
When the AMR is installed to the meter the modem will
sync with the server time which is located in the data
center. All the meter protocols are integrated in the
8051F350 Microcontroller firmware. The controller will
imitate the commands to the meter and collects the data
from the meter. This collected data will be stored in the
FLASH memory (8MB). This stored data will be sent to
the server using SIM900 module by GPRS
communication at a specified time interval. The remote IP
of the server, access point name of the service provider,
specified time interval will be configured in the
EEPROM. The data will be sent to the server once in a
day as per the client requirement and can be configured to
the below mentioned time intervals.
1. Half n hour (for every 30 minutes).
2. One every 60 minutes.
3. for every 45 minutes.
SIM900 module has an internal RTC which can
be used to transmit the data to the server at specified
intervals mentioned above. The data is transmitted to the
server using TCP/IP stack provided in the sim module.
VI. RESULT ANALYSIS
Hence by using Automatic Meter Reader(AMR) we can
read meter data once i.e. Instantaneous, Load survey,
Tampers, Alerts (modem power fail, power restored,
meter com failed, com restored ) in a day or we can
configure to intervals .By using AMR we can get data at
server end, by using SIM CARD. And also we can update
the firmware through air. No need to go to each AMR to
update firmware.
